1. Dances of the human experience, that is what the late great Alvin Ailey (founder of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater) created with his ballet Revelations, which has moved audiences all over the world since its premiere in 1960 in New York City. In this short film in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Revelations, hear from the man himself the inspiration he took from his “blood memories” of his childhood in the south, including the gospel churches of his youth, spirituals, and the African American experience.

"It [Revelations] embraces you, no matter what religion you are, race, color, creed, anything. You sit and you watch that ballet and then you know what its like to be human.” - Judith Jamison, Artistic Director Emeritus of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
